Common Name: Redface Batfish, Pinnatus Batfish
Latin: Platax pinnatus
Max Size: 14–16 inches
Temperature: 75–82°F
pH: 8.1–8.4
Reef Safe: No
Care Notes:
The Redface Batfish is a visually striking species with its red-tinted face and large, bat-like fins. While beautiful, they are notoriously difficult to keep and require experienced care. These fish thrive in a large, spacious tank with plenty of swimming room and hiding spots. They are peaceful and social, doing best in groups. However, they are not reef safe and may nip at corals, so they are better suited for fish-only tanks or aquariums with other peaceful species. Redface Batfish have a varied diet of meaty foods like shrimp, krill, and occasional plant matter. Due to their particular care requirements and sensitivity, they are recommended only for aquarists who can provide the appropriate environment and have experience with challenging species.
