Native to the Indo-West Pacific, it prefers sandy or rubble bottoms with subdued lighting and gentle water flow. This lionfish is peaceful but will prey on small fish and invertebrates. It feeds on meaty marine foods like shrimp and silversides. Like other lionfish, it has venomous spines. It can be kept with coral but not with crabs, shrimp, or small fish.
