Care Notes: The Volitans Lionfish is the most commonly kept lionfish species in the aquarium trade. It has long, flowing fins and bold red, white, and brown stripes. Native to the Indo-Pacific, it prefers large aquariums with plenty of rockwork and low to moderate lighting. It is peaceful with similarly sized fish but will eat smaller tankmates and invertebrates. It feeds on meaty marine foods like shrimp, squid, and fish. This species has venomous spines. It can be kept with coral but not with crabs, shrimp, or small fish.
