Also known as Tank Busters, these big natured fish have huge personalities. 

Tank requirements: although these can start in a moderate tank, they will grow fast and require a bigger tank (4ft for pair or bigger if possible). These ideally like to be in groups of 5 or 6, as when in smaller groups aggression can break out and a solitary fish can become withdrawn. There is zero point in adding plans to the tank as they will be uprooted; rocks may be flipped and can smash the aquarium so any decor should be secured. Heaters should also either be inline heaters, or have a heater guard on them, or be built into the filtration unit (such as with Juwel tanks). Due to the size these fish get, they also can be very messy eaters. An external filter with regular maintenance on substrate cleaning (gravel cleaners make this easy and provide the necessary water changes; or aquatic vaccuums) is paramount to keep the water quality at their requirements. If the water quality and nutrition is not up to par, these fish can contract hole-in-the-head disease. 

Tank mates: **NOT COMMUNITY FISH**, large plecs are tolerated, and when smaller firemouths, jack dempseys and other robust and hardy south american cichlids can be tank mates. If housed with other aggressive cichlids, the oscar will be more aggressive quicker.
