The Medusa Plec (L034) is one of the most distinctive and characterful plecos in the hobby, instantly recognisable by its unique bristled face and intricate mottled patterning. Unlike many L?numbers that rely on bold stripes or bright colours, the Medusa stands out through texture, detail, and personality. Its unusual head shape and fine tentacle-like growths give it a mythical, almost otherworldly look — hence the name.
This species stays relatively small, making it ideal for planted tanks, aquascapes, and medium-sized community setups. It’s peaceful, hardy, and far more visible than many shy plecos once it settles in. Medusas are active grazers, excellent at keeping surfaces clean without uprooting plants or disturbing décor. Their calm temperament and manageable size make them a brilliant choice for both experienced keepers and those wanting their first “special” plec.
