The Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus) is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful tetra species in the aquarium hobby. Native to the Congo River Basin in Central Africa, this elegant freshwater fish is prized for its shimmering rainbow-like colours, graceful swimming behaviour and long flowing fins.
Adult male Congo Tetras develop spectacular finnage and iridescent shades of blue, gold, violet and green, creating a stunning display in well-maintained aquariums. Their peaceful nature makes them excellent additions to larger community aquariums alongside other calm fish species.
Congo Tetras thrive when kept in groups of six or more and appreciate aquariums with open swimming areas, subdued lighting and plenty of plants around the edges. Their natural beauty and active schooling behaviour make them a favourite among both beginner and experienced fishkeepers.
